15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

We are searching Gods word for our spiritual growth.  No other experience or revelation or self-help books will accomplish any spiritual growth within us except preaching Christ and studying His word.  We need to read and understand His word so that we may use those skills when we interact with other people.  This is our service to God.
We learned in the passage from John 21 an interesting fact about an impetuous Peter who seems to give up and go fishing.  In that era it was a strange move for Peter to go fishing, because he claimed to be a disciple, but he went back to his old job and gave up on waiting for Jesus.  Then Jesus comes back and appears to the group and reminds Peter of his responsibilities. We see the great power of God in all the intricate little miracles there on the beach.  No fish, the caught fish, the net, the fire and the food ready in a moment’s time.  The lesson is, God showing us in His awesome way, that He wants to lead us in a life of humble, grateful service to Him.
